About Dan White
Dan White was an American politician who was elected as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1978. He gained notoriety that same year when he assassinated the 37th mayor of San Francisco George Moscone and fellow San Francisco city Supervisor Harvey Milk. He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter instead of first-degree murder in a highly controversial verdict in 1979 and sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
Family Life
He was the second of his parents' nine children. He was married to Mary Ann Burns from 1976 to 1985. He and Mary had three children together.
Trivia
Having served five years of his seven-year prison sentence, he was released on parole in 1984. He committed suicide in 1985.
The popular expression "Twinkie defense" comes from his 1979 trial.
