About Daniel Barenboim
Daniel Barenboim performed in his first international concert in 1952 when he was only 10 years old. By the end of 1957, the Argentine-born pianist had performed in five major cities around the world. In the 1960s, he was named the conductor of the English Chamber Orchestra, and became Orchestre de Paris’ music director in 1975.
As of the end of October 2021, he was the general music instructor of Berlin State Opera. He has also worked with other renowned orchestras like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre de Paris.
Family
His parents, Enrique Barenboim and Aida Schuster, both pianists, played key roles in the development of his profession. He was married to Jacqueline du Pré until her death in 1987. The following year, he married musician Elena Bashkirova.
Awards
Barenboim is one of the most decorated musicians of his time. He has won more than five Grammy Awards including “Best Chamber Music Performance” and “Best Orchestral Performance”. Some famous awards that he has received are Wolf Prize in Arts, Prince of Asturias Awards, and Goethe Medal.
In 2011, he was made an Honorary Knight of the British Empire.
