About Daniel Lewin
The American-Israeli entrepreneur was renowned for his exceptional intellect. He co-founded the internet firm Akamai Technologies Inc. He was on American flight 11 when it crashed into the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks in 2001. He died at 31.
Early Life
He was born in May 1970 in Colorado, United States. He studied at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and continued at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Personal Life
At the time of his death, he had two sons. He was also survived by wife Anne.
Career
He began his career as researcher at the laboratory of International Business Machines Corporation (IBM). Having earned a Bachelor of Science degree, he went on to develop algorithms which birthed the Akamai Technologies in 1998. He became the company’s chief technology officer during the prime of the Internet age.
Trivia
His remains were reportedly identified in 2004.
Honors
The Main and Vassar Streets in Cambridge were renamed in his honor.
He received the Morris Joseph Levin Award for “Best Masterworks Thesis Presentation” at MIT in 1998.
