Renowned American journalist Daniel Schorr had an outstanding career in the field of reporting. He was a three-time consecutive Emmy Award winner and he was awarded the “Outstanding achievement within a regularly scheduled news program”.
Family and Spouse
He was the son of Gedaliah Tchornemoretz and Tillie Godiner. Schorr had his education at DeWitt Clinton High School and the City College of New York.
His long and romantic involvement with his wife, Lisbeth Bamberger started in 1967 and they shared two children namely Jonathan and Lisa Schorr Kaplan.
Journalism Career
Schorr spent about 60 years of his life working as a journalist. His first journalistic work began during his days in high school, where he joined the school’s newspaper called the Clinton News.
His first professional work was in 1939 at the Jewish Daily Bulletin. He worked with the bulletin for a while and in 1934, he started serving as the assistant news editor for the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
The New York-born journalist experienced success after he was selected by American journalist Edward R. Murrow to work for CBS News in 1953. Schorr mostly reported on political issues. His first interview with a politician was Nikita Khrushchev, the first secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
The journalist was known to be a tough one during his interviews with politicians. His actions generated some criticism from politicians like John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.
In later years, he was employed by Reese Schonfeld to serve as a White House correspondent for the Independent Television News Association (ITNA).
Accomplishment
Schorr was given the George Polk Award in 1993.
Death
He was attacked by a short illness which caused his death.
