About Dario Fo
Dario Fo has gained the reputation as one of the most-gifted playwrights in the history of theatre. With his works translated into over 20 languages, the Italian writer mostly depended on improvisation from his actors. He was best known for his 1974 play titled “Can't Pay? Won't Pay!”.
His controversial play named “Mistero Buffo”, which has been performed in a number of countries, was heavily criticized by Roman Catholic leader Cardinal Ugo Poletti.
Acting Career
Fo played different roles in a number of films during the 1950s and 1960s. He was best known for playing the Achille character in the 1956 film titled “Lo svitato”. He also appeared in films like “La freccia azzurra” and “Rascel-Fifì”.
Family
His parents were Felice and Pina Rota Fo, and grew up in the midst of two siblings named Bianca and Fulvio. He was married to Italian actress Franca Rame, and they had a son called Jacopo Fo.
Education
He attended Brera Academy.
Awards
In 1997, he was honored with the Nobel Prize in Literature. Some laurels that he received were Copenhagen University’s Sonning Prize, and the Obie Award.
