In November 1988, he founded and launched the “Aspen Times Daily” newspaper.
In 1995, he co-founded the Palo Alto Daily News. It eventually expanded, opened additional editions and inspired four copycat-free dailies in the Bay Area. In 2005, Knight Ridder’s San Jose Mercury News bought the “Palo Alto Daily News” and its four copycat dailies for $25 million. However, Dave remained as publisher of the newspaper.
In 2006, Dave and Jim Pavelich founded the “San Francisco Daily”, subsequently known as the “Daily Post”.
Major Story
In 1990, he reported and covered the arrest of journalist Hunter S. Thompson on sexual assault charges. However, the charges were dismissed after he reported that the purported victim was an undercover agent and had made up the assault accusation to provide the district attorney with a reason to search Thompson’s Woody Creek property for narcotics.
