About David Axelrod
David Axelrod started working for the Chicago Tribune as a political writer right after graduating from college. In 1981, he became the youngest person to write on political issues for the newspaper. Three years later, he was named the communication director for Paul Simon’s campaign team. He went on to work for other prominent politicians including John Edwards and Dalton McGuinty before he was appointed by Barack Obama to serve as his chief campaign strategist in 2008.
After being elected as the President of the United States, Obama named him as the President’s Senior Advisor. In 2015, he became one of CNN’s top political commentators.
Other works
He established the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics in 2013, and has since been working as its director. The following year, the Labour Party in Britain hired him to work as Ed Miliband’s strategic adviser ahead of the 2015 elections.
He’s also one of the founders of AKPD Message and Media, a political consulting company.
Family
He was born to Joseph Axelrod and Myril Bennett Davidson, a renowned advertising executive. He became the husband of Susan Landau in 1979. Together they have three children.
Education
In 1972, he graduated from Stuyvesant High School and went on to read political science at the University of Chicago.
Trivia
He has published a memoir entitled “Believer: My Forty Years in Politics”.
He has mostly worked with the Democratic Party.
