David Boies is one of America’s leading attorneys of the 21st century. He is the chairman of the highly revered “Boies Schiller Flexner LLP” law firm. Additionally, he is prominent for representing the USA and his clients in major law cases in America.
Early Life & Education
He was born in Sycamore, Illinois. Unfortunately, he had dyslexia as a child and could not learn to read until he reached third grade.
He is an alumnus of Fullerton Union High School. Between 1960 and 1962, he enrolled at the University of Redlands and in 1964, he received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. In addition, he holds a JD degree from Yale Law School and an LL.M. degree from New York University School of Law.
Law Firms
In 1973, he became a partner at “Cravath, Swaine & Moore”, where he worked as an attorney. Boies left the firm in 1997 and founded “Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP” with his buddy Jonathan Schiller.
Major Cases
In 2000, he represented ex-US Vice President Al Gore in the United States Supreme Court case “Bush v. Gore,” which resolved a recount dispute in Florida’s presidential election.
In “Hollingsworth v. Perry,” he successfully defended the plaintiff, invalidating California “Proposition 8,” prohibiting same-sex marriage.
