About David Lean
The British film director, editor, and producer, David Lean, was a native of England. He is recognized as one of the renowned directors of all time. In 1942, he directed his first film titled “In Which We Serve”. Other films he directed include “Brief Encounter” in 1945, “Lawrence of Arabia” in 1962, and “The Bridge on the River Kwai” in 1957. In 1990, Lean was honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award. He was also a two-time Academy Award winner for “Best Director” in 1958 and 1963.

Personal Life
He was the son of Helena Tangye and Francis W. B. Lean. He had a sibling named Edward T. Lean. Lean married six times. His wives included Isabel, Ann Todd, Sandra Hotz, and Sandra Cooke who happened to be his last wife until his death. He had a child called Peter Lean. He stopped schooling at the age of eighteen.
Death
Lean died of throat cancer in 1991.
Awards
He was a three-time Golden Globe Award winner for “Best Director”. He won six BAFTA Awards in 1953 (2), 1958 (2), and 1963 (2).
Additionally, Lean won other accolades including Silver Condor Award for “Best Foreign Film” in 1944, Berlin International Film Festival Golden Bear in 1954, Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix in 1946, David di Donatello for “Best Foreign Director” in 1967, and Evening Standard British Film Award for “Best Film” in 1974.
