About David Lewis
David Lewis’ significant contributions to various branches of the field of philosophy are what earned him a reputation as one of the 20th century’s most dominant philosophers. His research spanned branches such as philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, philosophy of probability, philosophy of time, philosophy of language and epistemology. It is his writings on metaphysics that brought him immense fame. He taught philosophy at Princeton University for three decades (1970-2001).
Family Life
His mother, Ruth Ewart Kellogg was a medieval historian while his father, John D. Lewis taught at Oberlin College as a Professor of Government. He was married to Stephanie Lewis from 1965 until his death.
Achievements
He received the Howard T. Behrman Award from Princeton and the Machette Prize for his book, “Convention: A Philosophical Study”.
Cause of death
He died on October 14, 2001 from complications of severe diabetes.
