About David Ortiz
Many sports enthusiasts have described David Ortiz as one of the best designated hitters to ever feature in Major League Baseball. The Dominican-born American made his name with the Red Sox where he played for 14 seasons. He won three World Series championship and was named the Most Valuable Player in the 2013 finals.
He joined the league in 1997 after he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins. He had five successful seasons with the team before joining the Red Sox in 2003.
Shooting incident
Ortiz was a victim of a planned attack that took place at a Santo Domingo bar in 2019. He was shot from behind and sustained serious wounds, but later survived after an emergency medical care.
A number of suspects were arrested including Gabriel Alexander Perez Vizcaíno, and Jose Eduardo Ciprian. A report by the Attorney General department of the Dominican Republic initially stated that the baseball star wasn’t the prime target.

His parents are called Ángela Rosa Arias and Enrique Ortiz. He and Tiffany Ortíz have three children named D'Angelo, Alexandra, and Jessica.

He is a graduate of Estudia Espaillat High School.

He won seven Silver Slugger Awards, two Hank Aaron Awards, and a Roberto Clemente Award before retiring in 2016. He was also included in ten All Stars teams.
