About David T. Lykken
David Thoreson Lykken was an American psychologist who contributed immensely to the study of both fraternal and identical twins. He started his work in this field in 1970 and played an important role in the compilation of the Minnesota Twin Family Study.
At a stage in his career, he called for a scheme where parents would need a license in order to have a baby. He was of the opinion that criminal records and financial status of the couple should be some of the factors to be considered when giving out the license. Lykken also contributed to the development of the ‘lie detection’ technique.
Family
He was one of the children of Frances and Henry G. Lykken, a famous civil engineer. He was married to Harriet Lykken and fathered three sons including Joseph Lykken, a physicist.
Education
The psychologist was a product of the University of Minnesota.
Trivia
He was also an educationist and taught at his alma mater.
Lykken was one of the signatories of the "Mainstream Science on Intelligence" which was an address to Charles Murray and Richard J. Herrnstein’s “The Bell Curve”.
