An energetic bundle of talents, David Winters was a dancer, choreographer, actor, and producer who was part of the 1957 Broadway musical “West Side Story”.
Early Life
As a young lad, David Winters started performing by watching Gene Kelly on television. By the age of twelve, he was already acting and dancing on television. In 1957, he caught the attention of acclaimed choreographer Jerome Robbins, who invited him to be a part of the “West Side Story”. That performance marked a turning point in Winters’ career.
Career
In 1961, Winters was offered the role of A-rab in the film “West Side Story”, which won 10 Academy Awards. He worked with the King of Pop, Elvis Presley in the 1964 musical “Viva Las Vegas”. He also choreographed for Presley in films such as “Girl Happy”, and “Easy Come, Easy Go”. This prolific choreographer received his first Emmy nomination in the 1967 movie “Movin' with Nancy”, starring Nancy Sinatra. Praised for his exceptional talent, Winters made his directorial debut in “Alice Cooper: Welcome to My Nightmare” and also directed the 1982 film “The Last Horror Film”.
Death
Winters died in 2019 at the age of 80.
