About Delbert Mann
Delbert Mann was an award-winning American filmmaker. Between 1947 and 1949, he worked on many stage plays and was associated with the Town Theatre. He started his onscreen works in 1949 when he joined NBC as a director. He went on to direct the organization’s series entitled “The Philco Television Playhouse”.
In 1955, he directed his first film which was named “Marty”. Throughout his over four decades in the film and television industries, Mann worked on many productions including the “Ford Star Jubilee” TV series, and “That Touch of Mink”, a film released in 1962.
Family
He highlighted the role of his parents, Ora and Delbert Mann Sr., in the development of his career. His wife Ann Caroline Mann died in 2001. They were blessed with four kids.
Education
The filmmaker moved to Yale University for his master’s degree after obtaining his first degree at Vanderbilt University.
His Major Awards
His work on “Marty” earned him an Academy Award. In 1960 he was celebrated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also received a Palme d’Or.
Trivia
He was a member of the Army Air Corps during the Second World War.
Some popular films that he worked on were “A Gathering of Eagles” and “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs”.
