Derrick is a well recognized American sportsman who played basketball professionally.
Personal Life
When he was born, he was given the name Derrick Demetrius Coleman. He got educated at Syracuse University after high school. His rookie season was so good that in 1991, he was given the Rookie of the year Award. In the year 2000, he got married to Gina Marie Cook.
Career
He was chosen by the New Jersey Nets during the 1990 NBA draft. In 1994, he was put on the US National team where he won the gold medal during the FIBA World Championship. In 1995, he joined Philadelphia 76ers and played with them for about four years. He then joined Charlotte Hornets in 1999 and played with them till 2001 when he went back to Philadelphia 76ers. He moved from them in 2004 and became part of the team for Detroit Pistons.
Charity Work
When there was a water crisis in Michigan, he gathered bottles and utensils and filled them with clean water. He then drove to areas that had been affected and distributed to them.
