About Dian Fossey
Dian Fossey made a name for herself through her work as a primatologist and conservationist. Upon the recommendation of British paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey, she began the study of mountain gorillas in the mid-1960s. She first studied them in Congo for some months before establishing the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda, where she continued her work from 1967 until her death in 1985. She was also known for her efforts at the prevention of poaching of gorillas.
Family Life
She was the daughter of insurance agent George E. Fossey III and model Kathryn Kidd, who later married Richard Price, a businessman.
She was engaged to Alexie Forrester, a Rhodesian. She also dated Bob Campbell, a photographer who worked with National Geographic.
Bibliography
Two years prior to her death, she published her well-known book titled “Gorillas in the Mist”. She also published multiple scholarly articles in the National Geographic Society.
Death
She was murdered in her cabin at Karisoke. Her body was found on December 27, 2015.
