About Diane Cilento
Right after her education, Diane Cilento started her career as a stage performer. Her performance earned her a contract with British filmmaker Alexander Korda who helped her to get her first movie role in “Passage Home” which was released in 1955.
Her Molly Seagrim role in the 1963 film “Tom Jones” made her one of the most popular Australian actresses of her time. Her roles in films like “The Wicker Man” and “Hombre” further aided her rise to stardom.
She was the daughter of renowned Australian medical practitioners Raphael Cilento and Phyllis Dorothy Cilento. She was married three times. First to Andrea Volpe which lasted from 1956 to 1962. She went on to marry actor Sean Connery but the union ended in 1973. They had a son called Jason Connery, who would become a prominent figure in the movie industry.
She later married writer Anthony Shaffer.
She was trained at the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
She was shortlisted for an Academy Award for her role in “Tom Jones”. She was also nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in “Tiger at the Gates”.
As an author, she published a number of books including “Manipulator” and “My Nine Lives”.
