About Diego Benaglio
Diego Benaglio is a former goalkeeper best known for spending most of his career in the German Bundesliga and representing his home country Switzerland in three FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Club Career
After an almost 10-year youth career, Benaglio made his senior debut in 2002 with VfB Stuttgart. He spent most of his professional career in Germany, playing for Stuttgart and Wolfsburg, where he made 837 career saves. Benaglio also played for the Portuguese club Nacional; and between 2017 and 2020 was on the books of French football club Monaco. He announced his retirement in 2020.
All in all, he made slightly above 400 club football appearances.
International Career
He also represented Switzerland and played in its U19, U20, and U21 teams before making his debut with the senior team in 2006. Benaglio represented his country at the 2006 and 2014 FIFA World Cups competitions, as well as the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London. He retired from international football in 2014.
