Background & Personal history
The supercentenarian was born in Pievepelago, Italy. In 1920, she and her husband Riccardo Manfredini immigrated to Iowa, USA. She was a house cleaner in the USA until she was ninety years old. Rumors have it that she often understated her age to prevent people from thinking that she was too advanced in age for the job. During World War II, she took a job in an ammunition factory.
Her husband died when she was 79 years old, and she lived alone for the next four decades until, in 2012, she moved into a nursing home at age 110.
She had four children with her husband. However, she had 12 great-great-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 7 grandchildren at the time of her death.
Trivia
She beat colon cancer when she was 101 and still had the capacity to shovel snow and dance at age 106.
Death
On 17 December 2012, at 9:30 am, she passed away after suffering from a natural infection. She was 115 years and 257 days old, becoming the oldest verified person on earth at the time.
