About DJ Quik
DJ Quik began producing mixtapes at home from a turntable he received when he was in eighth grade. It was through this that he had a recording deal with labels such as Ruthless Records, and Profile Records in 1990.
The following year, he dropped his first album which was known as “Quik Is the Name”. It spawned hit songs like "Born and Raised in Compton" and "Tonite". Before 2014 came to an end, the California-born rapper had released nine studio albums including his 1998 hit “Rhythm-al-ism”.
Collaborations and own record label
Having established himself as one of the prominent music producers of his generation, DJ Quik has worked with many renowned artists like 2Pac, Kurupt, and Snoop Dogg.
The rapper is the founder of Mad Science Recordings. In 2005, he released an album under the label which was entitled “Trauma”. Two years later, he co-founded the group known as The Fixxers.
Controversies and legal issues
He gained notoriety for his six years feud with the rap group Compton's Most Wanted. He threw shades at the group in songs such as "Way 2 Fonky" and "Dollaz + Sense". The collective also responded with a number of diss songs like "Def Wish" and “Def Wish III”.
Quik was given a five-month jail sentence in 2006 after he was found guilty of assaulting his sister. The alleged incident happened three years earlier.
