About Dominik Hašek
Dubbed “The Dominator,” Dominik Hasek is one of the best ice hockey players to have played the game. He is a retired Czech ice hockey goaltender and held numerous records as a player and at the time of his retirement.
Background & Early Life
He began playing hockey at age six in his birthplace Czechoslovakia. The player became the youngest professional hockey player in 1981 when he made his debut for “HC Pardubice” at age 16. He also made numerous contributions to their 1989 and 1987 league titles.
Career Highlights & Records
Hasek played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for16 years with the Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, and Chicago Blackhawks.
With six Vezina Trophy wins between 1993 and 2001, he is regarded as the most successful goaltender of the league between the 1990s and 2000s. In 1998, he also became the first goaltender to win the “Hart Memorial Trophy” multiple times.
Hasek led the Czech national hockey team to win their first Olympic gold title at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
As of 2021, he held the NHL’s record of being the only goaltender to receive the highest shots per sixty minutes and still has the highest saving percentage in that season.
He is a Czech, NHL, and IIHF Hall of Famer.
