Childhood & Education
Baylor was born and raised in Austin, Texas and attended Stephen F. Austin High School, and became the first African American to join the school's athletics team. He later attended Blinn Junior College to pursue his baseball career.
Professional Career
He was drafted into the Baltimore Orioles in the 1967 MLB Draft and made his debut in 1970 after playing in the minor leagues. He also played for the Oakland Athletics, California Angels, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins. He retired in 1988 and became a coach for various teams between 1990 and 2015.
Career Highlights
Baylor was a three-time Silver Slugger Award recipient. He also received the 1985 Roberto Clemente Award. As manager, he was named the NL Manager of the Year in 1995.
