About Don Blanding
"The poet laureate of Hawaii", as Don Blanding was called, was an illustrious American Poet.
Background
Don Blanding grew up in Oklahoma. He named, illustrated, and edited the school yearbook at Lawton High School; and this was his first major experience in publishing. He underwent training at the Art Institute of Chicago between 1913 and 1915.

Life and Journey
The multi-talented artist moved to Hawaii in 1915 and stayed there till he was enlisted in the Army during the First World War in 1917. He would again be enlisted during the Second World War.
It was reported that he had a particular soft spot for Hawaii, hence the designation, "The poet laureate of Hawaii".
In 1920, he further polished his craft by exposing himself to further training in art studies in France and in the United Kingdom. After which he returned to Honolulu, Hawaii. He found employment as an artist in an advertising agency. He also wrote poems that were published daily in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin for an advertiser.
Don Blanding published a poetry collection in 1923, having been pumped up by the apparent popularity of his ad-poems in the papers. It sold well. He went on to publish several other works which were equally successful; or even more so.
In 1957, the talented writer died of a heart attack at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 62.
