Economist, Donald Jasper Harris, garnered prominence as the father of the 2020 vice-president elect of the U.S., Kamala Harris. He is known to have worked as a professor at several prestigious universities including Northwestern University, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and Stanford University. Additionally, Harris has authored a number of books on Economics including the monograph named “Capital Accumulation and Income Distribution”.

He was born to Oscar Joseph Harris and Beryl Christie. Besides Kamala, he has another daughter named Maya Lakshmi Harris, who is a renowned attorney. He had Kamala and Maya with the late biomedical scientist, Shyamala Gopalan. He is the grandfather of Meenakshi Ashley Harris, who is an author and lawyer.
Education
The economist studied at Titchfield High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at University College of the West Indies–University of London. In 1966 he completed his PhD studies at University of California, Berkeley.

Prominent econometrician, Daniel McFadden, supervised Harris’ doctoral dissertation titled “Inflation, Capital Accumulation and Economic Growth: A Theoretical and Numerical Analysis”.
