About Donald Knuth
Donald Knuth has established himself as a distinguished scholar in the fields of computer science and mathematics. The Stanford University professor emeritus, who has been referred to as the “father of the analysis of algorithms” is responsible for the creation of the Knuth-Bendix completion algorithm and the Knuth-Morris-Pratt algorithm.
He also wrote the programming language METAFONT and the programming systems CWEB and WEB.
Family Life
He is the son of Louise Marie Bohning and Ervin Henry Knuth. He has a son and a daughter with Nancy Jill Carter, his wife since 1961.
Achievements
Honors conferred on him include the Turing Award, Grace Murray Hopper Award, National Medal of Science, Faraday Medal, John von Neumann Medal, Kyoto Prize, and Faraday Medal.
Trivia
He authored “The Art of Computer Programming” a comprehensive multi-volume monograph about programming algorithms.
