About Donn Starry
United States Army four-star general Donn Albert Starry gained recognition for commanding the Training and Doctrine Command of the United States Army from 1977 to 1981. He also served as a commander in chief of the United States Readiness Command from 1981 to 1983.
Early Life
Starry became a United States Military Academy graduate in 1948 with the rank of a second lieutenant. He is also a product of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the Army War College, and the College of Armed Forces. Starry also graduated with a master's degree from George Washington University.
Career
Don Starry began his military career in 1969, taking command of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in the Vietnam War that led its attack on Cambodia in 1970. He later became the commanding general of the United States Army Armor Center and School in 1973 and the commander of V Corps from 1976 to 1977.

The former U.S. Army General was married to Karen Deitrick.

Starry was awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Purple Heart for his contribution to the army over the years.
