About Donnie Van Zant
Donnie Van Zant is one of the original members of the American rock group known as 38 Special. As the lead vocalist, he played an instrumental role in the recording of the band’s eponymous maiden album. Before announcing his departure from the group in 2013, which was due to health concerns, the American contributed to a number of albums including “Wild-Eyed Southern Boys” and “Bone Against Steel”.
Other Projects
In the 1980s, he started performing with his brother Johnny in a group called Van Zant. The duo issued a self-titled album in 1985. Their fourth album titled “Get Right with the Man” peaked at number 2 in the United States.
Family
Aside from Johnny, he had another brother named Ronnie, who was also a singer, known for his time with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Trivia
In 2013, it was disclosed that he was having a problem in his ear which caused him to end his musical career.
He has performed alongside Don Barnes.
