Selected Works
Apart from writing scripts, Doty worked on the design of the "art" subtitles that conveyed his words. He wrote the story for the adventure drama, “Fighting the Flame,” starring William Haines and Dorothy Devore. His most famous film in the 1920s was “The Unchastened Woman,” directed by James Young. Other writing credits include “All for a Lady,” “The Knockout,” “Pleasure Crazed” and “The Important Witness.” The latter, a crime drama directed by American director Sam Newfield, had a cast that included Dorothy Burgess, Noel Francis, and Donald Dillaway.
Personal Life
He married Katherine C. Doty after a failed marriage to Josephine Whiting with whom he had a daughter.
Accolade
Doty received an Academy Award nomination (for Best Writing – Original Story) for his work on the 1930 comedy, “Laughter.” The film, which was directed by French filmmaker Harry d’Abbadie d’Arrast, starred Frederic March and Nancy Carroll.
