About Duane Allman
Remembered best for his outstanding improvisational guitar-playing skills, Howard Duane Allman rose to fame in 1970 as a leader and founding member of the then-popular rock band, Allman Brothers Band. Prior to the band’s formation, he had worked for a few years as a session musician for the likes of Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and Clarence Carter.
In spite of his short time with the Allman Brothers, he influenced their success in the 1970s with his contributions to four albums including “Eat a Peach" (1972) and “At Filmore East” (1971).
Family Life
His younger brother was fellow “Allman Brothers” member, Gregg Allman. He was born to Geraldine and Willis Allman. He had two children from relationships with Patti Chandlee and Donna Roosman.
Legacy
A road in Macon, Georgia, was named after him in 1998. In 2006, The Skydog Music Festival, was established in his honor.
Death
He died from internal injuries a few hours after a motorcycle crash.
