About Duke Ellington
Duke Ellington was an American composer, pianist, and bandleader.
Career
Ellington began with performances in New York at venues like the Cotton Club. He formed the Duke Ellington Orchestra in 1923, and he performed with them until he died. The Duke Ellington Orchestra, which is often considered the most known “orchestra” in jazz, also toured Europe in the 1930s. It had top level professional musicians like Johnny Hodges (a saxophonist). Many of Ellington's works, including collaborations with other musicians, are now jazz standards. The Duke Ellington Orchestra also made recordings of themselves for films and musicals.
