About Duncan Edwards
Despite his short-lived career, Duncan Edwards’ tenure as a professional footballer was so impactful that he is fondly remembered even today.
He was only 16 when he debuted in the Football League First Division with Manchester United’s first team in 1953, having previously played for the youth division of the team. He also played in 18 matches for England between 1955 and 1957.
Family Life
He was the eldest and only child of Sarah Anne and Gladstone Edwards to grow into adulthood. Carol Anne, his younger sister had died at 14 weeks old. Prior to his death, he was engaged to Molly Leech.
Achievements
He is an inductee of the English Football Hall of Fame and Football League 100 Legends. He won two Football League First Division and two FA Charity Shield championships with Manchester United.
Death
He died on February 21, 1958 two weeks after the aeroplane he was travelling on along with his teammates from Belgrade crashed in Munich, Germany.
