He hails from Los Angeles, California. His parents were Harry and Lillian Hoffman. His father was a prop supervisor at Columbia Pictures. He’s of Jewish descent. The renowned actor had his high school education at Los Angeles High School and graduated in 1955. From there, he went on to Santa Monica College to study medicine but he left after a year to join the Pasadena Playhouse.
