About Earl Hurd
A pioneer animator, writer, and film director, Earl Hurd is known for his classics such as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and “Elmer Elephant”. He is also the co-developer of the Cel animation used by Walt Disney until 1988.
Early Life
This comic strip cartoonist was born in 1880 in Kansas City. His first work was published in the Kansas City Post; but in 1903, he moved to New York, where he worked as a cartoonist for The New York Herald. He notably illustrated the “Trials of Elder Mouse” in 1911 for the Evening Telegram.
Career
Hurd invented the character “Bobby Bumps” in 1915 while working for J.R. Bray's cartoon studio. After a hiatus from his failed production company, he went to work for Ub Iwerks, who was Disney’s top animator.
