He was a well renowned American Grammy Award winning musician and instrumentalist.
Personal Life
He was named Earl Eugene Scruggs when he was born to George Elam Scruggs who worked as a bookkeeper and farmer. His mother was Georgia Lula. When his father died, his mother was left to take care of him together with his four other siblings. The whole family was interested in music which was a lot of fun for them.
Career
He started recording singles in 1949 starting with “God Loves His Children/I’m Going to Make Heaven My Home”. He has also released “I Sure Could Use the Feelings”, “It Was Only the Wind” and over a hundred more tracks.
Life and Death
In 1955, while driving to visit his sick mother together with his family, they got involved in an accident with a drunk driver. Even though his children were not badly hurt, he was badly hurt along with his wife. About twenty years later, he got involved in a plane crash when a plane he was flying went past the runway and flipped over. Even though he was badly injured, he survived. In 2012, he died of natural causes.
