The rock musician was a member of the alternative rock band Collective Soul, which provided vocals for the group. He was also associated with the Sweet Tea Project and the self-titled band Ed Roland. He generally plays the guitar, piano and bass.
Family
He married Stephanie Boley in 1966 and they were divorced in 2001. He later wed Michaeline Matteson in 2006. He has two children as of 2021.
Education
At the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he studied songwriting and guitar.
Career
Roland’s music career was heavily influenced by the works of British singer and composer Elton John. During his early career, he worked for nearly a decade as the chief engineer and producer at Real 2 Reel Studios in Stockbridge, Georgia, United States.
Between the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was a member of the bands, Ed-E and Marching Two-Step.
The artist released an individual album “Ed-E Roland” in 1991 under the autonomous label Core.
He renamed his band Collective Soul and independently released the first studio album of the band “Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid” in 1993 under the independent label Rising Storm. “Shine”, a single from the album, received widespread attention and became an alternative hit on several college radios. This success led to Atlantic Records signing up Collective Soul in 1993. After the re-release of “Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid” by Atlantic records, the band was catapulted into reasonable fame.
