About Edgerrin James
Edgerrin James is a retired American professional footballer who was active between 1996 and 2009. He was an NFL running-back for eleven seasons.
Education
While in high school, the University of Miami (UM) signed James to their team, and he became one of the school’s best running backs, recording twenty-eight games and a total rushing distance of more than 2,900 yards between 1996 and 1998.
Professional Career
In a 7-year deal worth $49 million with the Indianapolis Colts, James did well to prove critics that he deserved such a big deal; in no time he had won the rushing title within two seasons in the NFL, and left Colts in 2006 with more than 9,200 yards rushing distance covered.
Between March 2006 and April 2009, he was on a $30 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, where he underperformed with shorter average yards per carry. Nevertheless, the Cardinals won games against the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers.
James could not play full year at Seattle Seahawks following his $2 million deal; there, he missed training camps, recorded lower running yards and had only seven games with the team.
As his performance fell below expectation, the deal was suspended in November 2009. This means that he spent just four months in Seattle. In July 2011, he brought his football career to an end.
Records and Awards
James had more than 12,200 total career rushing yards and eighty rushing touchdowns, becoming the 11th and 15th highest in the NFL respectively as of 2009.
At the Colts in 1999, he was awarded NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
He became a member of the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
Trivia
His girlfriend died in April 2009, and the tragic event was part of the reasons why he signed off from the Arizona Cardinals before contract ended.
