About Eduardo Galeano
Eduardo Galeano began his career as a journalist but rose to fame as an author. He started his journalism work with El Sol before he moved to Marcha where he worked as an editor. While he was seeking refuge in Argentina during the 1970s, the Uruguayan established a magazine known as Crisis.
As an author
Galeano was globally known for his numerous best-selling publications. He came to fame with his 1971 book “Las venas abiertas de América Latina (Open Veins of Latin America)”. Some of his other popular books were titled “Memory of Fire Trilogy”.
Personal Life
He was the husband of Helena Villagra with whom he had three kids.
Prizes
In 2006, the human rights group, Global Exchange, honored him with the International Human Rights Award. Four years later, he received the Stig Dagerman Prize.
Death
He suffered from lung cancer which caused his death.
Trivia
Galeano was also a soccer fan and expressed his knowledge about the sport through his book entitled “El fútbol a sol y sombra (Football in Sun and Shadow)”.
