He gave life to the character of an assassin who was contracted to kill the French president, Charles de Gaulle, in the 1973 thriller film “The Day of the Jackal.” Directed by Fred Zinnemann, the film had a cast that included Cyril Cusack, Alan Badel, and Tony Britton.
Fox went on to appear as Edward VIII alongside Cynthia Harris and Charles Keating in the TV series, “Edward & Mrs. Simpson.” In 2002, he portrayed Sir Mulberry Hawk in Douglas McGrath’s “Nicholas Nickleby.” His other film credits include “Laisse,” “Oliver Twist,” “Lewis,” “Katherine of Alexandria” and “Johnny English Strikes Again.”
Personal Life
After his divorce from Tracy Reed, he married actress Joanna David in 2004. He is a father of 3 children.
Award
He received a BAFTA award for “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in “The Go-Between.” In the film, which was directed by Joseph Losey, he starred as Viscount Hugh Trimingham. He was in a cast that included Julie Christie, Alan Bates, and Dominic Guard.
For his performance in “A Bridge Too Far” (1977), which saw him appear as Lieutenant General Horrocks, he won the British Academy Film Awards for the “Best Supporting Actor”.
At the 2003 New Year Honors, he was bestowed upon the honor of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
