Edward R. Murrow was a celebrated American CBS broadcaster and producer famed for his news reports from several locations in Europe during World War II and for his television show See It Now, which was instrumental in ruining the political career of U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in journalism.
Family Life
He was the youngest of three sons born to Ethel and Roscoe Conklin Murrow. In 1935, he got married to Janet Huntington Brewster. The marriage produced their first and only child Charles Casey in 1945. He and Janet remained married until his death in 1965.
Achievements
In 1964, he received America's highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was made an honorary British knight in 1965 by Queen Elizabeth. In 1984, he was honored with a posthumous induction into the Television Hall of Fame.
