She is a novelist and playwright of Austrian background.
Personal Life
She was given birth to by Friedrich Jelinek and Olga IIona Buchner. Her mother worked as a personnel director and her father worked as a chemist. She lost a lot of her family members to the holocaust even though her father positioned himself strategically to protect them.
Jelinek became a student of a catholic convent school and also learnt to play several instruments including the Piano, viola, violin and the guitar. Her studies however became difficult when she started to struggle with anxiety disorder. This was after she had gotten into Vienna Conservatory and University of Vienna. To try and manage her illness, she turned to writing. In 1974, she became the wife of Gottfried Hüngsberg.
Career
Jelinek did a lot of literary works including “ende: gedichte von 1966–1968”, a poetry work, “Michael Ein Jugendbuch für die Infantilgesellschaft” and “Was geschah, nachdem Nora ihren Mann verlassen hatte; oder Stützen der Gesellschaften” both novels.
Achievements
She was honored for her works and received a lot of awards including “Franz Kafka Prize”, “Nobel Prize in Literature” and “Stig Dagerman Prize”, all in 2004.
