About Elia Kazan
Elia Kazan was a Greek-American filmmaker and actor remembered for directing a number of award-winning films such as 1947’s Gentleman’s Agreement, 1951's A Streetcar Named Desire, 1954's On the Waterfront and 1955's East of Eden. In addition to directing numerous critically acclaimed motion pictures, he was also a renowned theatre director. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential Broadway and Hollywood directors of all time.
Personal Life
He was married three times: to Molly Day Thacher, a renowned playwright, from 1932 until her demise in 1963; to actress Barbara Loden from 1969 until she passed away in 1980; and to author Frances Rudge from 1982 until his death in 2003. He fathered four children with his first wife Molly and one child with his second wife Barbara.
Awards
Throughout his career, he won a string of prestigious awards, including three Academy Awards and three Tony Awards. In 1982, US President Ronald Regan bestowed upon him the Kennedy Center honors in recognition of his immense contribution to the arts.
