About Elisa Bonaparte
A member of the House of Bonaparte, Elisa was named the Princess of Piombino and Lucca in 1805 by her brother Napoleon Bonaparte. Four years later, she became the Grand Duchess of Tuscany but renounced her throne in 1814 when she fled into exile.
Family
Her original name was Maria Anna Buonaparte and was born to Letizia Ramolino and Carlo Buonaparte. Aside from Napoleon, she had other siblings which included Lucien Bonaparte, Joseph-Napoléon Bonaparte, and Caroline Bonaparte.
In 1797, she got married to French Army General Felice Pasquale Baciocchi. Together they raised five children including Elisa Napoléone Baciocchi Levoy and Felix Napoléon Baciocchi Levoy.
Death
She was hit with a serious illness in 1820. She died later that year aged 43.
Trivia
She was the only sister of Napoleon to hold any political powers.
