About Elizabeth Ashley
Elizabeth Ashley started his acting career as a stage performer. She’s best known for her role in Broadway’s “Barefoot in the Park” which premiered in 1963. She made her television debut in 1961 when she appeared in an episode of the television series “The Defenders”.
Her first film role was in 1964’s “The Carpetbaggers” which earned her a Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations. She also played the role of Maybelle Chesboro in the television series entitled “In the Heat of the Night”.
Family
Her original name is Elizabeth Ann Cole and was raised by her parents Arthur Kingman Cole and Lucille Ayer. Her three years marriage to James Farentino, an actor, ended in 1965. The following year, she married George Peppard and they had a son called Christian. After their divorce in 1972, she married James McCarthy two years later.
Education
She was trained at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre after leaving Louisiana State University.
Achievements
In 1962, she won a Tony Award. She has also been nominated for an Emmy Award and BAFTA Awards.
Trivia
She worked as a model before starting her acting career.
In 1978, she published an autobiography titled “Actress: Postcards from the Road”.
