Elizabeth Gilbert was an unknown writer when the Esquire magazine published her short story in 1993. This opened doors for her to write for a number of publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Travel + Leisure, and GQ.
As an author
After years of working in the print industry, Gilbert published her maiden book in 1997 which was titled “Pilgrims”. The American is best known for her 2006 memoir entitled “Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia”. The book was adapted into a movie in 2010.
She has also released many successful books with some titled “The Signature of All Things” and “Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage”.
Family
She’s the daughter of Carole and John Gilbert. She’s the sister of popular writer Catherine Gilbert Murdock. Her 1994 marriage to Michael Cooper ended in 2002, before she married José Nunes five years later. She was also in a relationship with Rayya Elias until the demise of the latter in 2018.

She is a proud product of New York University.
