About Ellis Marsalis Jr.
Ellis Marsalis Jr. was a legendary American jazz musician and teacher who is known to have been engaged in the art since the 1940s.
Marsalis Jr. has gone down in history as one of the greatest in his genre not only due to his own lengthy career - with him releasing his last album in 2018 - but also due to giving birth to a number of sons who became prominent jazz musicians themselves.
He was a well-recognized teacher at Xavier University, the University of New Orleans and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.
Family Life
Marsalis Jr. got married to a woman named, Delores Ferdinand. Together they birthed six sons, Ellis II, Mboya, Jason, Wynton, Branford and Delfeayo. The latter four names on that list became jazz musician themselves, some to very great success.
Achievements
In 2007 he was given an honorary doctorate degree from Tulane University.
Between 1958 and 2018 he recorded approximately 60 albums, most of them collaborations but with a third of them being solo efforts.
Death
Marsalis Jr. passed away from pneumonia he caught via contracting the coronavirus.

He was known to be more fond of teaching than being a celebrity.
