About Elmore Leonard
When Elmore John Leonard Jr. began his writing career in the 1950s, he specialised in the Western fiction genre and wrote tens of short stories in the process. He transitioned to crime fiction novels in the late 1960s. Many of his works were made into films and television series. Some of them are “Swag”, “Get Shorty” and “Rum Punch”.
Prominent directors who have worked on scripts adapted from his novels include Clint Eastwood (“Joe Kidd”), Randolph Scott (“The Tall T”) and Paul Newman (“Hombre”).
Family Life
He was born to Elmore John Leonard, Sr. and Flora Rive. He was married thrice. His second wife died in the marriage but his first and third marriages ended in divorce. He also had five children with his first wife, Beverly Cline.
Achievements
He was the recipient of a 1984 Edgar Award, a 2010 Peabody Award and a 2012 National Book Award.
Death
He died on 20 August 2013 from stroke complications aged 87.
