About Émile Durkheim
Émile Durkheim was a 19th century French sociologist and philosopher regarded as one of the most prominent originators of sociology. Throughout his career, his works played pioneering roles in promoting both sociological theories and thoughts, thereby earning him the title the "father of sociology". In 1893, he published one of his most notable and influential sociological works titledThe Division of Labor in Society. His other notable works include Suicide and The Rules of Sociological Method published in 1895 and 1897 respectively.
Family Life
He was the son of Mélanie and Moïse Durkheim. He married Louise Dreyfus in 1887. The couple had two children: Marie Durkheim and Andre Durkheim.
Trivia
His son André was drafted to serve in the army and died in the battlefield in 1915. The incident contributed to his death from a stroke two years later.
