Emily Watson started off her acting career as a stage actress and in 1992 decided to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. She is noted to have appeared in Donmar Warehouse's production of "Twelfth Night" and "Uncle Vanya" in 2002 – which earned her an Oliver Award nomination.
She broke into limelight in 1996 with the same year's drama film, "Breaking the Waves" where she portrayed Bess McNeill following Bonham Carter's exit – the said role earned her multiple awards and an Oscar nomination.
She soon starred in the 1998 British biographical film, "Hilary and Jackie" where she played Jacqueline du Pré – a role which landed her another Oscar nomination.
Some of her numerous works include "Metroland" (1997), "Cradle Will Rock" (1999), "Synecdoche, New York" (2008), "The Theory of Everything" (2014), and "Chernobyl" (2019).

Her father, Richard Watson worked as an architect while her mother, Katharine Venables worked as an English teacher. Her sister is named Harriet Watson. She got married to Jack Waters in 1995. Her children are Juliet and Dylan Waters.
