About Eric Idle
Eric Idle is an actor, comedian, musician and writer. He became a household name through his membership of the now-defunct British surreal comedy troupe, Monty Python. He wrote for the group’s sketch comedy series “Monty Python’s Flying Circus”, for which they rose to fame. He is also known for being a member of the Beatles’ parody band, The Rutles, and for creating the music and lyrics for “Spamalot”, the popular Broadway musical.
Family Life
He was born to Ernest Idle and Norah Barron. He was first married to Australian actress Lyn Ashley from 1969 to 1975. Carey, their son, was born in 1973. He has a daughter, Lily, with his second wife, Tania Kosevich whom he has been married to since 1981.
Achievements
For his work on “Spamalot”, he won a Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Lyrics”. The musical itself won a 2005 Tony Award for “Best Musical”.
Trivia
He is the author of the novels “The Road to Mars” and “Hello Sailor”.
