About Eric Whitacre
Eric Whitacre is a popular American composer and was among the earliest artist-in-residence from the Los Angeles Master Chorale to join the Walt Disney Concert Hall. His journey to stardom started in 1993, at age 23, when he finished his maiden wind orchestra project titled "Ghost Train".
He became a household name in 2010 when he released his maiden album entitled “Light & Gold”. Some of his best known compositions are “Lux Aurumque” and “Water Night”. He’s also the founder of the Eric Whitacre Singers which usually performs songs from the historical period known as the Renaissance.
Family
His parents are Roxanne and Ross Whitacre. Between 1998 and 2017, he was married to Hila Plitmann, a musician. Their union produced a child. He also had a child with his second wife Laurence Servaes whom he married in 2019.
Education
He’s a product of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Awards
In 2012, Whitacre received a Grammy Award for his “Light & Gold” album. He is also a recipient of the Richard Rodgers Award. This composer has gone on to receive prizes from organizations like the American Choral Directors Association and the American Composers Forum.
Trivia
He has written songs for some top performers like the London Symphony Orchestra and Julian Lloyd Webber.
He was trained by David Weiller. His initial dream was to become a rock musician.
